Self-sufficient cars, are they possible?

I have been rattling my brain for the last year trying to find a way to create a car that is self-sufficient, or very close. I have a few ideas, but not sure if they are feasible. I am one who likes to dream and go for radical ideas. I have become very tired feeling helpless not being able to help society advance. Every time you turn around it seems like someone is talking about the new green thing. Well if you want people to buy it you need to make it affordable to everyone. I am not saying make every Eco friendly car the same, I realize that America feeds on having things that others do not. So, definitely make some expensive, but where do you find the most gross polluters in society? Not in the upper class, its in the lower/middle class. Its the place that most people live in, the ones that have to struggle in this days economic recession. If you like to brain storm or toss around ideas and dreams hit me up.
